Artist Statement

I began taking photos as an extension from my work in painting, at this time I felt that painting was not enough, i really needed a more forceful registry and I began to experiment with a camcorder, capturing in motion images and then extracting photogram with software on my PC (a ridiculous system for work) so i decided to use the appropriate hardware: a camera

I was interested in bodies as objects, I felt no interest about faces.
I commented this to several girls via msn and some of them were interested on my proposal.
In this way is how my present work began.
Basically it’s set up on photos of women’s bodies like a fragmentary strip teases, with the tacit condition of both parts, the models and me, that the faces do not appear in the camera shot.

The models are not professional, they do not receive money to me when they model on these sessions. I contact them via msn and we never see ourselves again after the photograph session day.

First at all I explain them how I make my work. Then we make an appointment which could be at her house or at a place in conformity with, or sometimes a punk concert backstage is the place where to elapse a session.
[besides from visual artist I am guitar player of a punk band (http://www.loquero.com.ar)%5D, as well as in baths or any place that would be a private room.

I have not any knowledge about photography technique, really I am visuals arts teacher specialized in painting, as I wrote it previously, I dedicated several years to paint and I’ve arrived to the photography because I needed a better way to registry the image in my artistic work. The cameras I use are cheap ones, a Sony digitalis of 4 megapixeles and one analogical camera that gave in the supermarket to my mother as gift when she bought a soda water.
Neither I go to the sessions with photometer nor with silver umbrella into my bag.
Also I use one minolta reflex camera but I’m fond of using the digitalis camera for the facility to see immediately the taken photos.

My photos are exposed generating big collages on the walls, as if they were the photos that are put in rooms, of disordered form, superposed and of different sizes.
Also I am working in installations, simulating that effect, I make adolescent’s rooms, who include diverse objects that at real bedroom are: bed, bedside table, clothes, etc. Walls and ceilings are saturated of my photos and collages of some film posters.

In my last exhibition at Appetite gallery I required to spend a whole week there inside the gallery space while I was setting the exhibition up. Wanted that it was a real and lived room, there were being left the wine bottles, the used cups of coffee and the rest of food of the days that I remained mounting the installation, being generated a scope of disorder, untidiness and accumulation.

An amateur halo is reflected in my photographies, of something unfinished, and to a certain extent a little intrigues and the mystery that it generates what it does not let see, the cut of the faces and the glances. In the installations also I want an amateur style to be revealed, obsessive, with a dense climate, almost exhausting, saturated and psycho.

COMENTARIOS ARBITRARIOS

– por Paula Brecciaroli

Victoria Musotto. Appetitosa.

Fabuloso.

VICTORIA MUSSOTTO is a stunning artist

Victoria Musotto

The Ostinatto Buenos Aires Hostel, around the corner from Appetite, also has a commercial gallery space downstairs, which Appetite is currently using to show one of its member’s works.
The 21-year-old Victoria Musotto is a stunning artist. If I had the money, and somewhere to keep them, I would buy every one of these paintings and have them as my private stash. You wouldn’t need booze or drugs to pick you up if you had one of these at home.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen paintings that made me feel so good, so happy: like getting sucked into one of those electric-blue cocktails that spits you back out feeling light-headed and light-hearted. So full of color and spirit and energy, if you were to hang these in an old folk’s home, you would have them throwing away their walkers and getting down to some House music.

unlike the work of Giles Lyon, seemingly random and muddled forms have been carefully outlined and sometimes

shadowed, in this case in ink, as if to diagram and “cartoonize” each brash and unpredictable placement of paint.

Spontaneity is thus marked by irony and control, and gesture is almost self-mocking. On the gallery floor and across the

room on the gallery wall, Musotto’s self-titled work is versed in abstract expressionism, but the artist has attempted to free

it of its non-representational origins by implementing the values of graffiti art, breathing scattered toothy faces into the

many layers of brightly colored paint.

WARCLUB

warcrown2

Underground party started in 2008, in a secret warehouse that guests could acces with a password, it mixed underground Djs and bands with site specific art interventions and performance.

As described at Time Out, “Arty meets party at Daniela Luna’s WarClub. Surrounded by cutting edge wall art, intellectuals and club kids, artists and collectors, the young and the old make up an eclectic smiling crowd. WarClub is the brainchild of enfant terrible art gallerist Daniela Luna. It has taken place, up until now, in this raw, industrial, multi-room space whose only modifications, in the punk spirit Luna most prizes, are an accumulation of graffiti, murals and installations.”
